Can You Leave Perfume in the Car?

For people who attend social gatherings often, it may seem appealing to leave some perfume in the car for a quick refresher on the go. However, if you leave your perfume in the car, there may be a negative effect on its quality. Cold temperatures won’t have the same negative effect on fragrances as heat. In fact, the cooler the storage condition, the longer your perfume will last! If you’ve found the perfect fragrance but don’t plan to use it now, just keep it in the fridge until ready. So, can you keep cologne in your car during cold weather? It shouldn’t pose a problem.

This raises the question: do perfumes freeze, and can perfume freeze in a car? Due to its high alcohol content, the freezing point of most perfume is far too low to pose a problem. However, in the case of perfumes with a lower alcohol concentration, you’ll need to be a bit more careful.

All fragrance has a lifespan, and while it’s typically too long to cause any problems, the sweltering heat and UV rays of a hot car can significantly shorten its longevity. The temperature your perfume is stored in should be no higher than room temperature, or around 60 degrees Fahrenheit. In addition, you should keep it away from sunlight and humidity, so a cabinet or closet is the ideal environment to store perfume.
